School Program
 | BISD CAMPUS CRIME STOPPERS |
School and police officials agree that most students want to do the right thing, which is to keep their schools and neighborhoods safe, but sometimes fear and retaliation keeps some students from saying anything. The BISD Campus Crime Stoppers Program offers the safety of complete anonymity while promoting responsibility and allowing students to take action against victimization and crime.
Students who step forward with anonymous tips which leads to an arrests will be eligible for cash awards through the program. How does it work?
- If you are a student, parent, teacher, or other school staff member, you can call with the information about any crime on any BISD campus. We don't want your name, we want your information.
What sort of crimes should I call about?
- Anything! Drugs, drinking, graffiti, vandalism, burglary, weapons, gang activity or any crime that affects your safety and ability to learn. Information you provide us can help make your school a better place.
What happens if the information I give is Wrong? Can someone go to jail because of me?
- No. The information will be used as part of an investigation. No one is ever arrested based only on tip information.
Do I get a Reward?
- If the information you gave Campus Crime Stoppers leads to an arrest or if a weapon is confiscated, you are eligible for a reward.
How much is the Reward?
- Rewards range from $25 to $500. The Crime Stoppers Board meets once a month to decide the amount paid for each successful tip.
If I don't give my name, how do I collect my reward?
- When you call Crime Stoppers, you will be give a code number. You will be asked to call back to find out the status of your information. You will need your code number to find out the status. If your information lead to an arrest, you will then be told how to collect your reward - without ever giving your name!
If you aren't sure that what you saw or heard is really a crime, call anyway. Let the police decide if it's worth investigating. It may be a piece of a clue to a big crime.
